Vreugdenhil Breeding & Seeds

Dwarf tomato variety from Vreugdenhil Breeding & Seeds shines in the 4th Autonomous Greenhouse Challenge.

During the Autonomous Greenhouse Challenge, a total of 20 teams, consisting of 200 participants with 24 nationalities, compete against each other to grow dwarf tomatoes remotely using artificial intelligence (AI).

After the Online Challenge, where the teams grow a virtual crop, the top five teams will proceed to work in their own greenhouse compartment at WUR in Bleiswijk, autonomously cultivating dwarf tomatoes. The dwarf tomato variety 'Cherry Tomato Red F1 1284' from Vreugdenhil Breeding & Seeds has been chosen by the organizers as the most suitable variety for this challenge.

This competition had been previously organized with tomatoes. The major disadvantage of the previously used variety was that it grew very tall, requiring a lot of manual work. In contrast, the Cherry Tomato Red F1 1284 is a dwarf tomato variety that remains compact and reaches approximately 40 cm. Ideal for the competition!
